The music video has been posted a million times, so here is the first live performance of Drivers License.

3. BTS – Dynamite

4. The Weeknd – Save Your Tears

5. Bad Bunny and Jhay CortezDakiti

Super Bowl Halftime Show – The Weeknd

I’ve seen a lot of lazy, piss-poor takes on The Weeknd’s performance…like Mesfin Fekadu of the AP calling it “boring.” That’s literally all he had to say about it, with a couple of 3rd-grade metaphors thrown in there for flair. I hope you reached your word quota, Mesfin.

The Weeknd got up there in front of nearly 100 million people and displayed his talent: Singing.

He’s not a dancer like Bruno Mars or Beyoncé. He’s never been the type of entertainer to run all over the damn place. If you did your research, you should have known what to expect. The Weeknd is an incredibly gifted vocalist, and that’s exactly what he gave us.

I’ll give it to you…his schtick isn’t for everyone. His music is dark and some people don’t like it. I understand that. But to say it was “boring?” Come on, man. If anything was boring, it was the game itself.

What did you guys think about the performance? Let’s talk about it in the comments.

The Weeknd Set To Headline The Super Bowl LV Halftime Show

Plus: The Best…And Worst Super Bowl Halftime Performances Of All Time

The Weeknd

Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, the 30-year-old Canadian superstar known as The Weeknd is about to hit the biggest stage he’s ever been on. The Super Bowl averages around 99 million viewers each year, and tomorrows game likely won’t be an exception.

Super Bowl LV features Patrick Mahomes and the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs vs six-time Super Bowl winner and 43-year-old Tom Brady and his new team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The game airs live from Tampa on Sunday at 6:30 pm EST

Starting the evening off, singing the National Anthem is country star Eric Church and R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan.

The Weeknd hits the stage at halftime, joining an illustrious list of superstars to grace the Super Bowl halftime show spotlight. That list includes the likes of Michael Jackson, Prince, and Beyonce, among others.

Abel has had a hell of a career, so far. Since being discovered on YouTube in 2010, he has sold over 75 million records, won 3 Grammys, 5 American Music Awards, 9 Billboard Music Awards, and an Academy Award.

He just recently announced the rescheduled 2022 After Hours World Tour:

It’s been reported that The Weeknd spent $7 million of his own money to make sure the show comes together as he envisions it. Performers are not paid to perform at the Super Bowl…which is total BS, in my opinion…but what the hell do I know?

What songs do you hope to see The Weeknd perform tomorrow night? Let me know in the comments!

5 Best Super Bowl Halftime Shows:

The NFL Super Bowl era began in 1967, with a halftime show starring the University of Arizona and Grambling University marching bands. We’ve come a long way since then. Here are my top 5 Super Bowl Halftime Show performances:

1. Prince – Super Bowl XLI, 2007

Nothing will ever beat Prince singing Purple Rain during a monsoon in Miami

2. Michael Jackson – Super Bowl XXVII, 2003

Michael Jackson just standing there doing nothing for nearly 2 minutes was better than Maroon 5…we’ll get to that.

3. Beyonce – Super Bowl XLVII, 2013

What a legend.

4. Bruno Mars ft. Red Hot Chilli Peppers – Super Bowl XLVIII, 2014

Bruno is entertaining as hell. Give us new music, man!

5. Janet Jackson ft. Justin Timberlake, Nelly, P Diddy, Kid Rock, and Janet Jackson’s Right Boob- Super Bowl XXXVIII, 2004

Nipplegate had to be on the list…despite Kid Rock doing Kid Rock things

5 Worst Super Bowl Halftime Shows

We’ve had some legendary performances…we’ve also had some legendarily bad performances. Here are the 5 worst halftime shows.

1. “Be Bop Bamboozled” ft. Elvis Presto, an Elvis impersonator that looks nothing like Elvis and happens to be a magician – Super Bowl XXIII , 1989

I have no words for this. 12 and a half minutes?!

2. Walt Disney’s Small World Salute, ft. A Bunch of Small Children singing “You have to be a football hero to get with the beautiful girls,” Awkward Warren Moon, George and Barbara Bush, and The New Kids on the Block – Super Bowl XXV – 1991

Everything about this was awkward

3. Maroon 5 ft. Travis Scott and Big Boi

For the record, I don’t hate Maroon 5. This just sucked. Really bad. Really REALLY bad.

3. Disney’s “Reflections of Earth and Tapestry of Nations” ft. Phil Collins, Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias, and Toni Braxton – Super Bowl XXXIV, 2000

Sorry, Disney. I love ya…but you should leave the Super Bowl and Phil Collins alone.

4. “Winter Magic” ft. Gloria Estefan, and Olympic figure skaters Brian Boitano and Dorothy Hamill…for whatever reason. Super Bowl XXVI, 1992

Okay…this one could have gone anywhere in the bottom 3. Good lord. They lost 22 million viewers to a live episode of In Living Color.

5. The Black Eyed Peas ft. Usher and Slash. Super Bowl XLV, 2011

Fergie has started quite the list of cringe-worthy sports moments. How dare you cut Slash’s intro short.

What’s your prediction for the game? Let me know in the comments!

I got Kansas City, 33-30. Patrick Mahomes will win his second straight Super Bowl MVP and retire old-man Brady.

New Music Friday: 6 of This Week’s Top New Releases.

It’s that time of the week again! All clocked out for the weekend and ready to discover some brand new music!

We have some early 2000’s nostalgia hitting us this week, so let’s start with that.

Foo Fighters – Making A Fire

This single comes off the band’s 10th studio album, Medicine At Midnight.

The Foo Fighters started in Seattle in 1994 by former Nirvana drummer, Dave Grohl, after the tragic “suicide” of Nirvana Frontman Kurt Cobain.

Hear what Grohl had to say about Cobain’s death and how he formed the Foo Fighters in this 2018 interview with ABC’s Anthony Mason:

Whenever I see a new artist that’s young and just blows up, and becomes gigantic overnight…I kind of get worried for them. I don’t think anybody’s cut out for it.”

Grohl was only 25 when he started the group. 26 years and 12 Grammys later, The Foo Fighters are still making great music. I guess Grohl was cut out for it, after all. The man is an absolute legend.

Here’s the new track, Making A Fire.

Are you afraid of the dark?
I know a place we can start
But if this is the last time
Make up your mind
I’ve waited a lifetime to live
It’s time to ignite
I’m making a fire

Hayley Williams – My Limb

This brings us to our second nostalgic sound of the week. Paramore lead singer, Hayley Williams dropped a surprise solo album today, Flowers for Vases/descansos.

This is her second solo album, which was written and performed in its entirety from her Nashville home during the pandemic.

The 32-year-old rocker intentionally leaked My Limb on January 28th, by driving to a Nashville fan’s home and leaving her a package containing a candle, a burnt copy of the track on a CD (like we used to do back in the early 2000’s,) and instructions to leak the single early.

“Neighborhood watch has really got a tight butthole right now”

Here it is. Officially released today, My Limb.

If you gotta amputate
Don’t give me the tourniquet
You wished that I would runaway
Sever what isn’t working

Cardi B – Up

Honestly, I’m just here for the comments section on this one.

Billboard’s 2020 Woman of the Year has released the second single off of her upcoming album, and just like her last single, W.A.P. Cardi holds nothing back with Up.

Cardi B songs always slap, and this one is no different. The beat hits hard and her flow is always on point, though she has caught a little flack for the hook. Mir Fontane and Mir Pesos claim Cardi stole their 2020 song, Stuck. While the hooks to both songs do sound similar, Chris Mench of Genius shows us that “If it’s up then it’s stuck” has appeared in dozens of rap songs. For Chris’ explanation and breakdown of the accusations, click the Genius link above.

This is NOT your kid’s Pixar version of Up.

But just for funsies, watch the opening scene from Pixar’s Up, then watch Cardi B’s Up…you’ll find yourself on a wild rollercoaster ride of emotions.

Also note: the music video is NSFW.

I’m not crying. You’re crying.
I could make the party hot, I could make your body rock
B*tches say they f*ckin’ with me, chances are they probably not

Can we also talk about the blatant disregard for COVID while the ladies slap their tongues together? Am I the only one thinking about that?

Dan + Shay – Glad You Exist

On a much more family friendly note, Dan + Shay are back with their air-tight harmonies and seemingly endless positivity.

The duo took to their Instagram, stating:

“To us, ‘Glad You Exist’ is more than just a song, It’s a message of gratitude and hope. A message to everyone in our lives: our fans, our friends, our families, to remind them all how grateful we are to be on the planet at the same time.”

Here is the country pop duo’s newest single, Glad You Exist.

Here’s to all the late night drunk phone calls that you picked up
Here’s to all the bad decisions that you didn’t judge
All the love yous and the hate yous and the secrets that you told me
Here’s to everyone but mostly us

Sia and David Guetta – Floating Through Space

This is the 10th collaboration between the two, and they clearly have a great chemistry between them. Out of the 10, they are most famous for Titanium, which was their first collaboration together, and Flames, which peaked at number 7 on the charts.

French DJ and Producer David Guetta has a nice collection of awards, including an American Music Award in 2012 for Favorite Electronic Dance Music Artist, two Grammy Awards for Best Remixed Recording, and DJ Mag’s World’s Number 1 DJ Award…twice.

Australian pop singer, Sia, really blew up as a solo artist in 2014 with her top 10 hit, Chandelier. She has released several hits since then, including Cheap Thrills and Elastic Hearts.

The duo strikes gold once again with Floating Through Space. Sia’s voice is perfect for this track, and the lyrics are up-lifting. If you’re having a tough day…listen to this one.

So today, baby
Remember it’s okay
We’re all floatin’ through space

FINNEAS – American Cliché

23-year-old Finneas Baird O’Connell is a singer-songwriter, producer, and actor. He’s most famously known for his collaborations as a producer and co-writer with his younger sister, Billie Eilish.

In a recent interview with Carolyn Droke of UPROXX, FINNEAS says the siblings are close to putting the finishing touches on Billie’s upcoming album.

But this isn’t about Billie. This is FINNEAS’ moment. According to Droke’s interview, fans “cyberbullied” him into finishing this track…and he said he is happy they did.

Personally, I’m glad they did too. I’ve always had respect for his artistry, and his voice is good enough for him to be as big as his sister is.

Finneas deserves some time in the spotlight. This track could be it.

Here is American Cliché.

I’m an American cliché
Missin’ a girl in a French café
I say, “God damn, you’re beautiful”
You blush and duck out of frame

There we have it. This week’s New Music Friday was fun! Let’s do it again next week!

Which of these six tracks is your favorite? Tell us in the comments below!

Top 10 Tracks From The Spotify Global Viral 50

I was going to do the Billboard Global 200 every week, but it hasn’t changed much since last week, and I want to give you guys some new music to discover.

The Spotify Viral 50 is full of music I’ve never heard, so let’s do it!

1. Issam Alnajjar – Hadal Ahbek اغنية ” حضل أحبك

The number one viral song in the world on Spotify comes all the way from Amman, Jordan. This is an eclectic top 10, for sure. Hadal Ahbek is all over the place, thanks to TikTok.

Number one on Spotify and Shazam, and currently has over 23 million views since the song was uploaded to YouTube last September. You may not understand what he is singing, but Hadal Ahbek in Arabic directly translates to “I Love You.”

Watch out. This song will get stuck in your head.

Put your head on the pillow
No one can be compared to you in my heart
White is the color of your heart
There is no one like you
Oh how I love your response
I will always be with you
Even if everyone is against you
I’ll keep loving you

2. Ez Mil Panalo (Trap Cariñosa)

The number two song comes to us from the Philippines. The young Filo-American rapper went viral after performing Panalo on Wish USA Bus, with over 16 million views on YouTube since it premiered just three days ago.

After watching this video for the first time…my head nearly exploded. The energy and passion this kid brings is insane. There’s a good reason this song went viral. Watch this video. Crank your headphones up. You won’t regret it.

Ever since bata ako I’ve been kinda
Discriminated in my own home country
Sure, some would be like:
“LuH AmPuTi pUTi mO . tiSoY”
I ain’t tisoy
I’M PINOY

3. Olivia Rodrigo – Drivers License

Surprised this song made the list? Absolutely not. Olivia Rodrigo has held the number one spot on the major Billboard charts since it premiered three weeks ago. We talked about this one last week, so here it is.

And I know we weren’t perfect but I’ve never felt this way for no one
And I just can’t imagine how you could be so okay now that I’m gone
Guess you didn’t mean what you wrote in that song about me
‘Cause you said forever, now I drive alone past your street

4. SOPHIE – It’s Okay To Cry

Glasgow born trans rights activist, SOPHIE comes in at number four after the tragic news of her death. According to CNN, the 34-year-old Grammy nominee passed in a “terrible accident” at her home in Athens, Greece on Saturday.

SOPHIE’s debut album Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides was nominated for Best Dance/Electronic Album at the Grammy Awards in 2018.

RIP SOPHIE

I hope you don’t take this the wrong way
But I think your inside is your best side

5. JESSIA – I’m Not Pretty

With another TikTok hit on the charts, Vancouver pop singer JESSIA released the body-positive song I’m Not Pretty, which was written in just 72 hours.

I’ve said this before on this blog and I’ll say it again. If you are an artist, consistently POST CONTENT! You never know what is going to blow up. Especially on TikTok.

I know that I should love myself
But it’s getting kinda hard
When you’re constantly feeling like garbage
Know I shouldn’t hurt myself
But I can’t find way to lose weight
Without literally starvin’

6. Yung Baby Tate, Slade Da Monsta – I Am (ft. Flo Milli)

Tate Sequoya Farris (Yung Baby Tate), the Georgia-born 24-year-old hits number six on the Viral 50 with I Am, along with Flo Milli. Tate won a Grammy in 2020 as a songwriter for Dreamville’s Revenge of the Dreamers III. I Am is a female-empowering anthem, and these two female rappers absolutely kill it together.

I am healthy, I am wealthy, I am rich, I am that bitch (yeah)
I am gonna go get that bag and I am not gonna take your shit (uh)
I am protected, well respected, I’m a queen, I’m a dream (yeah)
I do what I wanna do and I’m who I wanna be
‘Cause I am me

7. SOPHIE – Immaterial

This is SOPHIE’s second song in the top 10 this week. Sam Smith took to Twitter on Saturday to pay tribute to the star after she passed. Here’s what he had to say:

“Heartbreaking news. The world has lost an angel. A true visionary and icon of our generation. Your light will continue to inspire so many for generations to come. Thinking of Sophie’s family and friends at this hard time” pic.twitter.com/7qr4aI0DDi— samsmith (@samsmith) January 30, 2021

Here is the 2018 hit, Immaterial.

You could be me and I could be you
Always the same and never the same
Day by day, life after life

8.Teto, Matuê – M4

It took me a bit to find any information about Teto, the Brazilian rapper. After reaching 1 million followers on Instagram and nearly 8 million views on YouTube for M4, I have a feeling we’ll be hearing about him a lot more.

Last year, you know, I disappeared, but, yeah
I came back, but, I’m on top, yeah
I’m doing it for my brothers
Betrayed me, it hurt my heart

9. Masked Wolf – Astronaut in the Ocean

The number nine viral hit comes all the way from Sydney, Australia. With the hip-hop scene growing by the day in Sydney, Masked Wolf is likely going to be a name we hear a lot in the US.

Astronaut in the Ocean was released last year. The official audio video on YouTube has reached 20 million views, and he just dropped the official music video in November, which has nearly 9 million views. Masked Wolf posted this intro on his YouTube:

I have a lot of people ask me “what made you write Astro … what is it about?” The art of music is that it means one thing to me but so many other things to other people… for me it was about knowing i was on a journey like an astronaut but I wasn’t where I wanted to be… I wanted to be in space… I wanted to do what astronauts do.. me saying im in the ocean means i felt I was somwhere I didn’t belong.. but I knew I was close to finding myself as an artist and getting the recognition I wanted from people about my music.. also “whatchu know about rolling down in the deep actually meant what do you know about being down in life and depressed.. i was kind of saying.. have you been similar to me and my down time.. have you been in the rough and the trenches.. some people also say why is the video not in the ocean.. well because I have found my spot in the world.. i know who I am with my music now.. so i’m not in the ocean.. i’m now in space.. where I belong… 2021 gonna be even bigger 🙂 peace

She say that I’m cool (Damn straight)
I’m like “Yeah, that’s true” (That’s true)
I believe in G-O-D (Ayy)
Don’t believe in T-H-O-T

10. Jeff Costa, Mc DannyXerecard

Xerecard is the second Brazilian hit in the top 10 this week. Released in November of 2020, Xerecard has been going viral on TikTok with fans dancing to the tune. There is no Portuguese to English translation of the word Xerecard, and I’m quite positive Google translate botched the translation of the lyrics, so we can try to figure out its meaning together by listening to the song.

The viral top 10 is pretty diverse, eh? These are some songs I would have never listened to on my own. I really actually enjoyed some of them.

Which one is your favorite? Tell me in the comments!

#Freebritney: How Britney Spears Lost Her Freedom To Her Own Father

2007 was a rough year for Britney Spears. She went through a lot of sh**. A messy divorce, an intense custody battle, drug and alcohol abuse, mental health issues that put the superstar in an involuntary psychiatric ward, and several visits to rehab. Her infamous head-shaving incident and her assault on a paparazzi’s car with an umbrella were big news stories and often the butt of jokes by the media.

Britney’s loyal fans had some words for the media and for the people laughing with them.

Remember Chris Crocker? Chris was the epitome of Britney Spears fandom. He is best known for filming himself under a sheet and pleading for everyone to “Leave Britney Alone.” I mean, it was a bit much…but he was absolutely right. The media was relentless.

Leave Britney ALONE!

February 1, 2008

That brings us to the day Britney lost her freedom. On February 1, 2008, Britney Spears was placed under a conservatorship controlled by her father, Jamie Spears, and attorney Andrew Wallet.

A conservatorship is designed to protect someone that cannot take care of themselves or their finances and is typically used for the elderly and the very ill.

As you could imagine, Britney did not take kindly to this. She compared the conservatorship to imprisonment.

Just six months after being told she is legally too unstable to control her finances, she was in the studio recording Circus, her 6th studio album. In 2009, she went back on tour. This means that her father didn’t think she was stable enough to drive a car or pay her own bills, but she was stable enough to go on an eight-month world tour.

Questions have arisen about her father’s motives behind the conservatorship. Britney accepted the terms, but she did not want Jamie Spears to have the control. She has spent the last 13 years in-and-out of court, attempting to change the details of the conservatorship. There is clearly a reason she doesn’t want her father in control.

Britney, again, attempted to have the terms lifted in 2019. Her lawyer told the court that Britney was afraid of her father. She vowed she will not perform again until her father is no longer in control. The court ruled that the terms of the conservatorship were to continue through…today. February 1, 2021. As of this moment, there is no news on this coming to an end.

Yes, Britney Spears had her share of problems. She lost it. Most of us have at one point or another. The only difference is, we don’t have the media watching our every move. I could imagine it would be incredibly difficult to recover from mental illness when the world is constantly in your business. Each time she checked into rehab, it became news. Famous or not…that doesn’t seem fair.

For a more in-depth look at what really went on for the last 13 years, watch Framing Britney Spears, a documentary by The New York Times Friday, Feb. 5, at 10 p.m. on FX and also streaming on Hulu.

Chris Crocker was way ahead of his time. He was absolutely right to say…”Leave Britney ALONE!” Personally, I find the whole thing fishy and I honestly feel for Britney. Mental illness is serious, and she has been put under an incredibly public microscope during every attempt at recovery. I hope she gets what she wants and I wish the “Princess of Pop” nothing but the best.

What do you think about this situation? Let me know in the comments! Let’s talk about it.

New Music Friday! 6 New Releases (1/29/21)

It’s that time of the week! Breaking down 6 of the newest tracks all in one place so you don’t have to go searching!

We’ve got some interesting stuff today, so let’s get weird, nerds.

IU (아이유)- Celebrity

Let’s start off with one all the way from South Korea, K-Pop star IU (아이유) with Celebrity. This is a preview of what to expect on her 5th studio album, which is in the works right now. The video is already at nearly 12 million views on YouTube. With her bright, beautiful vocals, and upbeat electro-pop sound, I can imagine this track will be blaring out of every shop in Gangnam by this weekend.

It’s fine to take your time
But I hope you notice, at last
The one and only
You are my celebrity

2 Chainz – Grey Area

I highly recommend taking a hit of acid or some shrooms before watching this video…not that I know what that’s like or anything…

But seriously. Do it.

2 Chainz switches heads with his dog, Trappy and gets belly rubs from an angel around an entire litter of 2 Chainz-headed Trappy’s. Wild stuff, man.

On the music side of it all, this song is a banger. It’s got a dope beat, a great flow, and lyrics that may or may not offend you. Grey Area is the latest single off of his 2020 album So Help Me God.

Gonna set the standard, I done rep’d Atlanta, slept in a cabana
Dolce & Gabbana, Louis V bandana (Do it)

Rag n’ Bone Man – All You Ever Wanted

Rory Charles Graham , AKA Rag n’ Bone Man has one of the coolest voices I’ve ever heard. His first album, Human was full of soul and beautifully executed. It didn’t sound like anything else out there. Maybe I need to let it grow on me, but All You Ever Wanted just reminds me too much of an Imagine Dragons song.

Lyrically, its nice…but the song itself just isn’t touching me in all the right places. The new single will be on Graham’s upcoming album, Life of Misdirection, which will drop in April.

I know we’ve all got our problems
And it’s a blessing…

Eric Church – Heart on Fire

With the first country song to appear on Le Café Music, Eric Church is giving the “Church Choir” exactly what they were hoping for with Heart on Fire. I was skeptical of this one from the opening line :

Roosevelt Road was too rough for my old truck

I couldn’t help but think “Man, not another country song about a truck.” That’s just a bit too cliche. But my feelings changed shortly after and caught myself actually enjoying it. It’s a fun song, Church is a very talented singer, and the lyrics shy away from the cliches after that first line.

Heart on Fire dropped today with the news that this song will be featured on his upcoming albums. That’s right, I said albums. Plural.

It will be a three volume set, titled Heart & Soul. This track will be on the album called Heart, which will be released April 16th. The second album of the series, Soul, will be released just one week later. & is going to be released as a 6-track vinyl EP and only available to Church Choir members. That’s pretty dope, Mr. Church.

Now, I’m trying to open my mind to the country genre a bit more these days. Country fans, please help me find the good stuff. Comment with your favorite country song below!

That look on your face was full of wild desire
Soakin’ my soul in gas and settin’ my heart on fire

Rebecca Black – Girlfriend

Here’s a nice little redemption story for you. Rebecca Black…the internet sensation in 2011 at the age of 13 for releasing what some people say is “the worst music video ever.”

The song is called Friday. You know the one. If you don’t, here it is. Sorry, Rebecca.

Tomorrow is Saturday
And Sunday comes after… wards

Black was destroyed by the media. She was bullied at school. Kids threw food at her in the cafeteria. She suffered from self-esteem issues and depression. At 19, she was told that no producer or songwriter would ever work with her again.

Kids can be really f****** mean.

Honestly, she didn’t deserve any of that ridicule at 13. You know who deserves all of the ridicule?

“Producers” Clarence Jey and Patrice Wilson. They had to know that song was trash, yet they released it anyway. Wilson, the writer of Friday and co-founder of ARK Music Factory was also the UNCREDITED featured rapper in the song.

Gee, I wonder why he wouldn’t want his name associated with it…

Wilson later opened another label under the name Pato, called Pato’s Music World...which failed miserably.

Hmm…I wonder why he changed his name…

Enough about those frauds. Let’s talk about Rebecca.

Despite the bullying and the depression…Black continued to make music and work on her craft. Her net worth is now estimated at $1.5 million. Suck on that, bullies.

Today, Rebecca Black is back. And it is Friday, but that’s just a coincidence. Here is her new single, Girlfriend.

Need you like I need to breathe
Never liked the chase much anyway

benny blanco, Marshmallow, & Vance Joy – You

There are some wild-ass music videos being released this week. Here’s another one.

In our only claymation video of the week, the boys are enjoying a little cookout, when a terrifying tree monster comes out and captures mallo and Joy while blanco is flipping burgers. blanco then finds them tied up inside the tree. Instead of killing the monster…he gives it a hug. Tree monster unties the boys and they all proceed to get drunk and become best friends.

What a day.

The song is nice, and I enjoyed hearing Vance Joy for the first time since Riptide in 2013.

The claymation is pretty badass too!

I traveled many roads
And I know what road to choose
Now my world is never changing
There’s anything I can do

There we have it. Six of the most talked-about releases of the week. I hope you enjoyed my breakdown of these tracks and their videos.

Don’t forget to subscribe, like, share and comment below!

Billboard global 200 Top 10 (week of January 30, 2021)

Every Tuesday, Billboard releases all of their charts. As I am a “citizen of the world,” I will bring you the Billboard Global 200 Top 10 every week. The Global 200 ranks the top songs based on sales and streaming data from 200 territories worldwide. Let’s get to it!

1. Olivia Rodrigo – Drivers License

The former Disney Channel’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series star debuted her first single last week at number 1. That’s where she’ll stay this week. Since Drivers License was released, it has broken the record for most daily streams on Spotify…twice. The song has reached the top of charts in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, the UK, and here in the US.

‘Cause you said forever, now I drive alone past your street

2. Ariana Grande – 34+35

Nobody can explain this track the way Lewis Capaldi does, so I’ll leave you with this:

A song about the joys of learnin’

Jumping 9 spots from 11 to 2, here’s 34+35:

3. The Weeknd – Blinding Lights

20 weeks on the chart and this song is still up near the top. From the Canadian star’s fourth studio album After Hours, Blinding Lights moves down just one spot to number 3.

Sin City’s cold and empty

4. Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez – Dákiti

Staying put at number 4 this week, Dákiti reaches its 12th week on the chart. If you don’t speak Spanish, this song is basically about getting drunk, smoking weed, his lady’s butt, and doin’ it.

I can’t believe I fit a Ladies Man reference in here. I’m proud of myself. Anyway, bending the rules of reggaetón, here is Dákiti by the Puerto Rican duo.

Dando vuelta por El Condado contigo siempre arrebatao

5. 24kGoldn ft. Iann Dior – Mood

Staying put at number 5, the 20-year-old TikTok sensation 24kGoldn reaches his 20th week on the chart with Mood. After breaking out on TikTok, he had some sound advice for his fellow TikTokers in an interview with the New York Post “Don’t make anything you wouldn’t want to watch yourself.”

Why you always in a mood?

6. BTS – Dynamite (방탄소년단)

The K-Pop boy band slides 3 slots to number 6 this week. This is also their 20th week on the chart after their debut at number 1. Dynamite has over 800 million views on YouTube and over 600 million streams on Spotify.

Those numbers don’t surprise me one bit. After living in South Korea for almost three years, I know how loyal Korean pop fans can be.

화이팅!!

Shining through the city with a little funk and soul

7. Dua Lipa ft. DaBaby – Levitating

The British vocalist sits at number 7 once again this week with the hit from her second studio album, Future Nostalgia. Warner Music got a huge win by signing Dua Lipa in 2015.

You want me, I want you, baby, My sugarboo, I’m levitating

8. SZA – Good Days

SZA will stay at number 8 this week, her 8th week on the chart with Good Days. The American neo soul vocalist announced yesterday that she wants Frank Ocean on the remix for this track.

I think that’s something we can all get behind.

Tell me I’m not my fears, my limitations
I disappear, if you let me

9. The Weeknd – Save Your Tears

Abel reaches the top-10 again this week after jumping from 13 to 9. This is the fourth single from After Hours, and his second on the chart this week. The Weeknd continues his on-going theme throughout his music videos from After Hours by revealing his botox-injected face of nightmares.

Yikes
But then you saw me, caught you by surprise
A single teardrop falling from your eye
I don’t know why I run away
I’ll make you cry when I run away

10. Justin Bieber – Anyone

The single released by Def Jam Recordings stays in the top-10 for a third week, dropping from number 6. Bieber’s character seems to be evolving from “idiot kid” to an adult with regrets. He recently reflected on the 7-year anniversary of his DUI arrest in Miami in an Instagram post.

You love to see that he’s learned from his mistakes and is trying to move on with his life. I know the feeling…minus the being famous thing.

Looking back on my life, you’re the only good I’ve ever done
Yeah, you, if it’s not you, it’s not anyone

I hope you enjoyed this breakdown of the Billboard Global 200 Top 10.

TikTok Sensation and American Idol Contestant Jax signs with Atlantic Records

If you are a fan of American Idol, you may know of Jax. She was the 3rd place contestant on season 14 at just 18-years-old. She auditioned with this beautiful rendition of I Want to Hold Your Hand by The Beatles.

After the show aired in 2015, Jax signed with Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine Records. Yes, the same Scott Borchetta and Big Machine Records that feuded with Taylor Swift over ownership of her music…but that’s another story.

Needless to say, that contract didn’t work out and Jax went on to release music as an independent artist. In 2016, she released La La Land, a track undeniably throwing shade at American Idol and its entire process.

It ain’t our call, it’s America’s honey
It’s not our decision, but your time is our money
We need more energy. We need more ratings
Dance for the camera. America’s waiting

Listen to the whole track here:

The insanely popular social app, TikTok launched in September of 2016. Jax joined TikTok, where she has posted parodies of popular songs, like Sia’s Chandelier from the Housekeeper’s Perspective.

These parodies brought her 1 million followers and over 15 million likes on her videos. Her fans urged Jax to release some original music…and she did just that. Her track Ring Pop, which she posted on TikTok, caught the attention of executives at Atlantic Records who offered her a deal she couldn’t refuse. Jax posted the news in this video:

@jaxwritessongs

I can’t believe I’m saying this…but I signed a record deal with @atlanticrecords. YOU GUYS made this happen 😭 #fypシ #foryou #songs

♬ original sound – Jax

Big congrats to Jax! She put herself out there and it paid off.

There’s a lesson to be learned here: KEEP POSTING CONTENT! You never know who’s watching.

Jax, if you happen to see this…I’d love to interview you about your experience!

Someone Like you turns 10

That’s right…the iconic track from Adele’s 21 album turned 10-years-old today. Someone Like You was the second single to be released on the 2011 album after Rolling in the Deep. This woman only turns out massive hits and her voice will never be matched. Prove me wrong.

When Someone Like You was released, David Letterman was still hosting The Late Show. Watch Adele perform the hit, live on Letterman.

Rumor has it, Adele has a new album coming out in February. Her good friend, Alan Carr stated “I’ve actually heard some tracks on it. Oh my God, it’s amazing – so amazing” in a recent article in Grazia UK. This, according to Jem Aswad of Variety.

I think we can all agree, we need more heartwrenching music from Adele in 2021. Let’s hope the rumors are true…I need something new to make me sob.

What is your favorite Adele song? Tell us in the comments!

9 New Single Releases (1/21/21- 1/22/21)

Happy Friday, music fans. We’ve got 9 new releases to talk about, so get your coffee and your headphones ready…it’s an interesting mix. Let’s get to it!

Billie Eilish & Rosalía – Lo Vas A Olvidar

Billie Eilish en español? Si. This long-awaited collaboration is finally here, and I’m kind of digging it. Lo Vas A Olvidar translates to “Will you let it go.” The Billie and Rosalía superfans likely won’t let this one go anytime soon (see what I did there?) The song is set to be featured in an upcoming episode of the HBO series Euphoria. I’ve never seen the show, but if you watch it…listen for this tune. The song is hauntingly beautiful and their voices blend perfectly together. Billie’s Spanish is surprisingly spot-on, too. The ladies actually had a bit of help from Billie’s family with the final line:

Love cannot be measured in a steady step
One day I’m a god and the next I can break
You say it to me like it’s something I have any choice in
If I wasn’t important, then why would you waste all your poison?

This will be one for the Breakup playlists, for sure.

Have a listen and let me know what you think!

What the f*** is up with their fingernails?

Fat Joe, DJ Khaled, Amorphous – Sunshine (The Light)

Not gonna lie…I did not have high expectations for this one. But the story of how this track was created is great, and the song is kind of catchy.

Amorphous is the real story here. The 22-year-old DJ, Jamir Reece Davis went viral as the MC Hammer appointed “Thanksgiving DJ” with his mashup of Rihanna’s Kiss It Better, and the Luther Vandross classic Never Too Much. The mashup got picked up for Fat Joe’s newest track, and Davis got official clearance from Rhianna to use her vocals in the track. Crazy how things can turn around so fast when you put yourself out there for the world to see.

In much stranger news: Fat Joe and DJ Khaled started a joint OnlyFans profile. For only $20 a month, you can see whatever the hell that’s all about.

This track is a vibe, for sure. Makes me want to buy a silk shirt and some Cuban cigars.

Let’s get to it…but look out for the horrible acting at the beginning of the video…

Lil Huddy – 21st Century Vampire

I don’t have much to say about this one. This was the first thing I said out lout after I listened to the song:

If you like it, that’s fine. I’ll only judge you a little.

Jason Derulo – Lifestyle (featuring Adam Levine)

I don’t have a whole lot to say about this one either. It’s your basic, somewhat catchy commercial pop song that will be played to death by top 40 radio stations across the country. I will say this, though…Jason Derulo is a goddamn entertainer, which is refreshing to see.

Lil Wayne – Ain’t Got Time

This one cracks me all the way up. Just two days after Trump pardoned Wayne for his crimes, he releases a song that seemingly references those exact crimes.

Full of vanilla, flyin’ over chocolate mountains
I stare at the Pacific while I’m smokin’ on a kilometer
The feds, they hot on us, one hundred on the thermometer
They raided my private plane, I went got one that’s more privater

When police searched Lil Wayne’s private plane back in December 2019, they found him to be carrying a gun and bullets. He was facing up to 10 years in prison until he was pardoned.

This track is a banger, though…despite the hilarity of the timing of its release. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Silk City – New Love (Featuring Ellie Goulding)

Welcome back, Silk City. The Diplo and Mark Ronson duo bang out a new club anthem with Ellie Goulding. This is Silk City’s first release since 2018 when they teamed up with Dua Lipa on Electricity. It’s a shame clubs aren’t open. We’ll have to wait until this virus goes away. In the meantime, put your headphones on and flick the lights on and off. Close enough, right?

Can you spot Diplo and Ronson in the video?

Busta Rhymes – Czar (Remix) featuring CJ and M.O.P.

Yes, THAT Busta Rhymes. It must be 90’s rapper week. Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God is Busta’s first album in 11 years. Busta fortifies his status amongst hip-hop royalty in this record.

So far, shawties throw they bra
And I need the lighter to light the perfect cigar
Brand new jet (Jet), brand new car (Car)
Leader of the new shit (Brra), brand new Czar (Czar)

According to the comments section on YouTube, this is exactly what hip-hop needs right now. I’ll admit…this track is FIRE. Well done, old man!

What do you think of the hip-hop legend’s newest release?

Madison Beer – Boyshit

First of all, let me say one thing about Madison Beer:

Thanks. I had to get that out of the way.

Madison’s newest song is about “knowing your worth and taking back your power” in a relationship that’s gone wrong. She says the video is “a nod to dealing with toxic masculinity.” Boyshit basically means bullshit, if I’m understanding that correctly.

Another one for the breakup playlist. Enjoy!

Weezer – All My Favorite Songs

Off of their upcoming album, Ok Human, All My Favorite Songs is one I’m sure we can all relate to at some point in our lives. It’s about how things that once gave pleasure are now depressing and everything sucks.

All my favorite songs are slow and sad
All my favorite people make me mad, so mad
Everything that feels so good is bad, bad, bad
All my favorite songs are slow and sad
I don’t know what’s wrong with me (Ooh, ooh, ooh)
I don’t know what’s wrong with me (Ooh, ooh, ooh)

Been there, bruh.

Rivers Cuomo, Weezer frontman sounds great. I’m looking forward to hearing the rest of the album. I was a big fan of Weezer growing up. Don’t let me down, gentlemen.

That’s it for this week’s New Music Friday. I’ll be doing this every Friday, so for the newest tracks…subscribe! Let me know which one is your favorite in the comments!
